Welcome from The President
Nena Munguia
President 2011-2012
Rotary Club of Pico Rivera, District 5300
Hello everybody,
I
am honored to accept the position as 2011-2012 President of
the Rotary Club of Pico Rivera. Our Club was chartered in
2003, I have been a member since 2004, and we have had
several great Club presidents. As the new President I will
do my best to follow in their footsteps. As the years goes
by, we have taken great strides to grow and improve. Every
new President has new and great possibilities and ideas. it
is our duty to make them a reality.
Who are we? What would it take to change the world? Rotary
International is the world’s fist service Club organization,
with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs
worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work
locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger,
improve health and sanitation, provide education and job
training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto
“Service Above Self”, we are this close.
Our RI President-elect Kalyan Banerjee asked at the New
Orleans, USA Convention to go back to our communities and
think of “new and different ways” to take on the challenges
of today. He said “I am asking you to reach within and
unleash your inner power and then use it to embrace
everything and everyone around you. This year’s theme is
“reach within and embrace humanity.”
Last year we chartered our very first Interact Club at
Salazar High School. Now our Graduates are asking for a
Rotoract in their College to continue the endeavor to do
well in the world. Our dream is to start an Interact Club in
the Junior High School. That way kids will learn how to be
humanitarians at a young age and make them feel that they
are making a difference in their community and the world
that will help them build their self esteem and leadership.
Our Club has 18 great members that are committed to continue
our humanitarian projects to fund heart surgeries, cleft lip
and palate repairs, give out wheelchairs, feed the hungry,
build homes, eradicate polio, and sponsor our young
generation to go to camps to emphasize leadership,
citizenship, and personal growth.
My goal for this year is for everybody to know what Rotary
is, what do we do and why? I want to inspire people to want
to be part of this great organization. I want to continue,
improve and grow our Fundraising events to fund our
humanitarian goals.
